The
Meals on Wheels is a vital, nutritional and social service which has been provided
for the community of Balbriggan since 1976, covering Balrothery, Balscadden and
Man O War. It is for people who for one reason or another are unable to cook for
themselves. It is not means tested, there are no questions asked and there is
a voluntary contribution, only if you can afford it.
We receive funding
from HSE for the part time Co-ordinator and a portion of the cost of the meals.
We have to raise the balance of funding ourselves. Meals are served on Tuesday,
Thursdays & Saturdays. We provide approximately 70 meals on each of these days.
The traditional Meals on Wheels service has expanded with the opening of
the Dinner Club. This 'Dinner Club' is open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The
Club is for those who, for whatever reason are unable to cook, but able to get
about and would like the company of others. We are able to transport people from
their home if they so wish. The
food is freshly prepared and cooked in the purpose built kitchen in the Parish
Centre on Hampton Street. It is ably supervised by Helen Davis, who has volunteers
and three CE staff We are looking for people who would like to benefit
from the Dinner Club as we are hoping to expand this service by providing transport
. If you know anyone who you might like either of these services, please
contact Helen @ 8416743 any day Monday - Saturday 9a.m - 1.00 p.m. We
are urgently seeking more Volunteers to help us. Can you spare either 1 hour a
week, 1 hour a month or indeed 4 hours a month? We are looking for volunteer
drivers on any of the above days to do the deliveries and also volunteers to help
in the kitchen with the preparation of the food. While you are all having coffee
and catching up with the gossip in your free time, maybe you would give us a thought
- there are bodies working very hard indeed behind the scenes preparing the Meals
on Wheels, so get on down and offer your services!!!! It will be much appreciated
- please contact Helen @ 8416743. |
