Gaeltacht
Sa Bhrigin Over the month of August, The Balbriggan
Youth Service, in conjunction with Foras na Gaeilge hosted a Gaeltacht styled
week which enabled young Balbrigganers to develop their command of conversational
Irish and embrace Irish culture. The young people from
around the area took part in morning classes, celi dancing, cooking a traditional
stew, a treasure hunt, a quiz, a barbecue and a trip to Tanagh adventure centre.
Local Irish teachers from Ardgillan College helped facilitate the project. John
FitzGerald from the Balbriggan Youth Service said, “It’s just wonderful to see
so many young people get enthusiastic about the Irish language and the rich culture
that goes with it. The level of effort to speak ‘as gaeilge’ was immense and the
craic had by all was unbelievable. Can’t wait to do it next year!” Gaeltacht
Sa Bhrigin was part of Balbriggan Youth Service’s Summer Programme. For
