Balbriggan Flyer to air on TG4 Tonight at 8:00pm |
On
TG4 tonight at 8:00pm a documentary will air from first time directors and producers.
The Balbriggan Flyer tells the story of Harry Reynolds, who in Copenhagen in 1986,
became the first Irishman to win the world championship in cycling despite a competitive
ban from the British. |

Sought For Charity Run! |
Men
of all ages are invited along to Ardgillan Castle in Balbriggan this weekend for
a charity run. Organised by the Men's Health Forum in Ireland(MHFI) "THE Run for
your Life" is being run in partnership with the GAA, FAI, Irish Heart Foundation,
Marie Keating Foundation and Irish Cancer Society. The event kicks off at 1.30pm
on Saturday.

| Historic
Achievement for Balbriggan Cricket Club |
Balbriggan Cricket Club
made a historic achievement yesterday when they won the Senior 2 Cup. This is
the first time the club have won this cup, in fact the last and only time they
were in the final was 21 years ago. At that time, they were beaten by North County
Cricket Club.
Yesterdays achievement was
even more special for one of the clubs longest serving members : Mr Albert Harper
who was the only Surviving player from the game in 1989. |

Sa Bhrigin |
Over
the month of August, The Balbriggan
Youth Service, in conjunction with Foras na Gaeilge hosted a Gaeltacht styled
week which enabled young Balbrigganers to develop their command of conversational
Irish and embrace Irish culture.
The young people from
around the area took part in morning classes, celi dancing, cooking a traditional
stew, a treasure hunt, a quiz, a barbecue and a trip to Tanagh adventure centre.

Filmmakers From Balbriggan Carry on Tale of 'The Sailor's Grave' |
Ask
any of the older members of the Balbriggan community about the history of the
town and you are almost certain to hear at least one mention of the tale of ‘The
Sailor’s Grave’. ‘The Sailor’s Grave’ is a legendary local ghost story about a
group of seafarers who met their fate on the rocks along the Balbriggan coastline

Senior Ladies Football Team |

Hughes from Balbriggan plays for The Irish Senior Ladies Football team. The team
was staying in Wexford over the weekend and Martin Fanning was there to take some
photos. The team were heading off to play Russia on Saturday in Wexford.

Sands organised a Dog Walk in Ardgillan Castle to help raise money for Irish Guide
Dogs for the Blind. Sony along with my her David, who is a volunteer Puppy Walker
for Guide Dogs and also a volunteer with Balbriggan Branch of Guide Dogs. Well

Lorraine Jackson Stage School are now taking registrations
for the new term.
Classes start back in September
and new students can register on Saturday the 11th September from 10:00am until
12.00pm |

on Wheels presented with cheque for €1,150 |
Meals
on Wheels were presented with a cheque of €1,150 which was raised as a result
of the following ladies running the Ladies Mini Marathon in June 2010.
Meals on Wheels are always seeking volunteers, either for the kitchen and/or driving
for this very worthy local service so please feel free to contact Helen Davis
@ 8416743 any day until 1.30pm. You can donate an hour a day, a week or a month
to suit your own schedule.

TaeKwon-Do Club Members Promoted |
Well
done to all the members of the Balbriggan TaeKwon-Do club who were promoted during
their recent grading under Mr. James Faulkner 5th Degree and Mr Paul Carroll 2nd
Degree.
Although they are taking a well earned
break during August it’s back to training hard, starting on the 6th September,

urban woodland set to transform Balbriggan! |
Local
community group, Cardy Rock Residents Association, is celebrating after winning
the Specsavers urban community woodland competition. Caitriona Redmond from Cardy
Rock Crescent, submitted the winning entry and was on site today (Monday 16 August)
with judge and gardener Paul Doyle plus Specsavers store director Paul O'Boyle

RFC Family Fun Day - What a Great Success! |
 Balbriggan
RFC put on a fantastic family fun day on Sunday 15th August 2010.
A BIG congratulations to the organisers for a well organised event where hundreds
of people turned out and even the sun was shining! With bouncy castles, obstacle
courses, a dunk tank and tractor balancing fun was had by all.

Golf Club Official Opening of New Course |
Balbriggan
Golf Club held the official opening of the new course today (14-Aug-10) and what
a fantastic day it turned out to be. There for the official unveiling of the plaque
was Kathleen Markey who was one of the founder members of the Golf Club back in
1945. The club also held it's Captains day and used this momentous occasion to
raise money for Charity with the hope of raising €4-5k on the day.

opened it's doors on Monday 9th August. The store which employs 14 local people
is aimed at the convenience shopper and offers a range of services, from hot and

Walk in Aid of Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind |
Sonya
Sands is organising a Dog Walk in Ardgillan Castle to help raise money for Irish
Guide Dogs for the Blind. Sonya who along with her husband David is a volunteer

Dogs. The walk will take place on 22nd August at 1:30pm and will take place whatever
the weather.

Council are removing the old trawler the Mary Christina from Balbriggan harbour.
The final voyage the trawler will take is on the back of a truck. We managed to

Ironman Wayne Cawley Successfully Completes Triathlon in Clogherhead... |
Wayne
Cawley competed in Hollingsworth - Pulse Triathlon in Clogherhead on Saturday
7th Aug 2010. We went along to see Wayne compete, as we had to see Balbriggan's
Ironman in action. The Triatlon involved a 750
meter swim, 20 kilometer cycle and a 5 kilometer run. Well
done Wayne!!!

& Esther Kelly Celebrate Golden Wedding... |
Friday
night in the Milestone was the place to be when family and friends surprised lovely
and very popular couple Jackie and Esther Kelly on the occasion of their Golden
Wedding Celebration. Music on the night was supplied by the one and only Bert
Cadwell assisted by Georgie Sharpe who kept the party rocking well into the night.
Well done to the staff and management in the Milestone for the beautiful food.

Present €7,060 Cheque ... |
Sean
and Wayne presented a cheque for €7,090 to Neo Natal unit in the Lourdes
Hospital last Thursday. The money raised by our Ironmen will go into there fund
to buy equipment for the unit. Sean & Wayne
are still collecting the last of the money raised and they will be presenting
a cheque to Meals on Wheels in Balbriggan in the next few weeks.
A
further update Wayne is competing in the Triatlon in Clougherhead on Saturday
7th August. This will involve a 750m swim, 20k cycle and a 5k run....these guys
never stop! |
